tik-tok-bantik-tok-ban

Amid the rising military and diplomatic tensions😠 with China, the Indian govt. has made a highly significant decision.

It has decided to put a ban🚫 on 59 Chinese mobile apps.

These include TikTok, UC Browser, WeChat, Shareit, Helo, Weibo and others.

On what grounds?

As per the govt. these apps transmit📶 their users’ data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India.

This data then gets into the hands of such elements who are hostile👿 to India’s security and defence (China in this case).

They then mine and profile🧐 this information.

This amounts to encroaching on the sovereignty and integrity of India.

The govt. has also cited concerns on aspects relating to data security and privacy🤫 of users of such apps.

Thumbs up from Desi apps

Not surprisingly, the Indian apps such as Bolo Indya, Roposo, ShareChat who aim to challenge✊ the supremacy of Chinese apps have welcomed this ban.

As per them, it will open up the market🤑 for them.

Unjustified, say others

Some internet activist groups have questioned🤨 this decision by the govt.

One of them, “The Internet Freedom Foundation” has called for transparency😇 and disclosure on this issue.

It has said that in spite of imposing a blanket ban, such cases need to be considered on an individual basis🔍.
